PETERSON WINERY
Fred Peterson’s been farming vineyards in California since 1973, first in a friend’s vineyard
in Mendocino where his eyes were open to the satisfaction of the work and then in vineyards
from Santa Cruz to New Zealand. After graduating from UC Davis in 1978, he became
vineyard manager and assistant winemaker at Mount Eden working under Dick Graff and
was soon promoted to Winemaker and General Manager. In 1983 he moved to Dry Creek
Valley and started a vineyard development company, managing 650 acres in Dry Creek, Anderson
Valley, Russian River and Alexander Valley all while consulting for Ridge/Montebello
in Cupertino as well as Stagecoach and Chimney Rock in Napa Valley. Peterson Winery began
in 1987 in a tiny barn on Lytton Springs Road, selling their first wines in 1993. Today,
working out of their new facility at Timber Crest Farms, Fred works with his son Jamie, sustainably
and organically producing around 8,000 cases annually of approx. 24 different
wines from small estate vineyards in the Dry Creek area.
