TRUJILLO WINES
Mike Trujillo grew up on a ranch in Colorado, tinkering with farm equipment, learning how to
grow crops in uncertain weather, and lots of other old-time craft skills that, in the end, prepared
him for his life’s work of cultivating grapes and the process of making wine. He discovered
his passion for winemaking in the early ’80’s while on a spring break from his studies
as an engineer. While staying with a winery owning, family friend in Napa Valley he began
working alongside Jim and Steve Allen in the planting of Sequoia Grove’s Rutherford
Bench vineyard and after working his way up to President/winemaker of Sequoia Grove,
while at the same time enjoying phenomenal success as partner/winemaker of the early
cult-Cabernet brand, Karl Lawrence, he started his namesake label in 2011 sourcing several
of the finest vineyards in Napa Valley. After the inaugural release of Trujillo Cabernets sold
out quickly, he was inspired to create a second label showcasing varietal blends. Madelyn
wines are approachable upon release. Urban is extremely proud to represent Mike’s wines in California.
