Scarlett Wines is a family operation owned by the McGah Family, who are most notably
known for co-founding the Oakland Raiders. Representing over four generations of wine
growers, the family’s personal touch can be felt from the soil to the glass. The winery previously
operated under the name McGah Family Cellars and rebranded in 2015 in honer of
their flagship wine, Scarlett, which is named after the founder’s daughter. Winemaker Mike
Smith is an award winning winemaker who started his career undertake direction of Thomas
Brown at Schrader Cellars in 2001. Traveling fro Portland, Mike working each crush “free of
charge” to learn his craft. Following his third harvest, Mike accepted a full-time assistant
position from Thomas and moved his family to St. Helena. During this tenure, Mike worked
with a vast array of wine labels including Schrader, Maybach Family, Tamber Bay and Rivers
Marie. The McGah family takes great pride in the fact that wines produced from their ultra
premium Rutherford fruit have garnered multiple 100 point scores.
